Process

Three clear steps to check your course options and possible Student Finance route.

1

Initial assessment

We check your immigration/residency status, previous UK higher education, English level and study goal.

2

Choose a suitable route

If your circumstances match an available route, we help you choose a suitable course and institution.

3

Next steps

We guide you through the registration and Student Finance process step by step.

3 key points for the first check

If these points are close to your situation, it may be worth starting a free assessment.

  • You live in England and may have settled, pre-settled, refugee or another eligible immigration/residency status.
  • You have no previous UK higher education, or your previous study needs to be assessed.
  • You have an intermediate level of English. An official English certificate is not always required at the assessment stage.

For many undergraduate routes, Student Finance may include two main parts

Tuition Fee Loan

The tuition fee is paid directly to the university or college.

Maintenance Loan

  • Paid into your personal bank account, usually in 3 instalments during the academic year. The amount depends on your address, household income, age, course type and individual circumstances.
Postgraduate routes follow a different funding structure and should be assessed separately.

Repayment is based on income, not a fixed monthly instalment

For most undergraduate routes, repayments usually start only when your income goes above the repayment threshold.

  • You repay a percentage of the amount above the threshold, not the full loan at once.
For example, under current undergraduate Plan 5 repayment rules, if your annual income is £30,000 and the repayment threshold is £25,000, the amount above the threshold is £5,000.
Postgraduate loans have different repayment rules, so they should be checked separately.
30,000 GBPannual income
Approximate annual deduction: £450, around £38 per month.
